By integrating the new Google Maps Grounding tool and a robust Code Execution engine, ShortGemini evolves from a text-based assistant into a capable workspace partner that can visualize locations, solve complex logic problems, and generate data files instantly.

Visualizing the world with Google Maps
For the first time, ShortGemini can interact with the physical world through rich, visual embeds. The new Google Maps Grounding tool allows users to search for places, get directions, and explore locations without leaving Discord.
The implementation has been heavily optimized for chat environments. Location summaries are concise and load instantly while retaining critical details like ratings and addresses. Additionally, map result embeds now feature clean, human-readable titles, replacing raw system text for a polished user experience.
Autonomous Code Execution
ShortGemini v3.5 introduces a fully functional coding environment. Instead of merely predicting answers to math or logic problems, the assistant can now write and execute Python code in real-time to derive precise results.
This capability extends to file generation. Users can ask ShortGemini to compile data or write reports, and the bot will automatically generate and upload .txt, .md (Markdown), or .csv files directly to the channel. This transforms the bot into a powerful tool for data conversion and document creation.
Infrastructure: The "Triple Quota" System
To support higher demand and advanced models, ShortGemini Labs has engineered a new resiliency layer designed for the future:
- Gemini 3.0 Readiness: ShortGemini has been prepared for the Gemini 3.0 model. It currently falls back to the Gemini 2.5 family of models.
- Universal Retry Logic: All five core tools: Google Search, File Search, Create File, Search History, and Google Maps; now possess auto-retry logic, ensuring complex multi-step tasks complete successfully even under load.
Refined User Experience
Version 3.5 includes significant quality-of-life improvements based on community feedback. The flagship /ask command has been upgraded to support a "reasoning effort" parameter, allowing users to request deeper analysis for complex queries. Responses can now expand from 1-3 sentences to 1-5 sentences when necessary to provide comprehensive answers.
Privacy and context have also been refined. Homework-related answers are now forced behind Discord spoiler tags (||like this||) to encourage learning over copying. Furthermore, the bot is now "self-aware," with its own previous messages included in the context window (it previously didn't), allowing for more natural back-and-forth conversation flow.
